How to read a heat rating
ANSI/ISEA 105 rates conductive heat resistance from the ASTM F1060 test in five levels by the highest contact temperature the glove held for the test period: Level 1 176°F (80°C), Level 2 284°F (140°C), Level 3 392°F (200°C), Level 4 500°F (260°C), Level 5 608°F (320°C). EN 407 is the European heat mark: up to six digits, each 1 to 4 (X when not tested), for burning behaviour, contact heat, convective heat, radiant heat, small splashes of molten metal and large quantities of molten metal; contact heat level 1 is 100°C, 2 is 250°C, 3 is 350°C and 4 is 500°C for 15 seconds. Welding gloves are sold by leather type, lining and cuff length as published by the manufacturer.
Ratings and specifications on this page are shown as published by the manufacturer or the named standard and describe performance in that standard's test. They are not a recommendation for any task. The employer's hazard assessment decides what protective equipment a job needs. Verify details against the manufacturer's current documentation before you buy.
