How to read a hard hat rating
ANSI/ISEA Z89.1 marks a hard hat by Type and Class. Type I is tested for top impact, Type II for top and lateral impact. Class G (General) is tested to 2,200 volts, Class E (Electrical) to 20,000 volts, Class C (Conductive) is not tested for electrical protection and may have vents or metal parts. The label under the brim shows the type, class, manufacture date and, where tested, the reverse-donning arrow, LT (low temperature) and HV (high visibility) marks.
Ratings and specifications on this page are shown as published by the manufacturer or the named standard and describe performance in that standard's test. They are not a recommendation for any task. The employer's hazard assessment decides what protective equipment a job needs. Verify details against the manufacturer's current documentation before you buy.
