How to read an NRR

NRR (Noise Reduction Rating) is the EPA-required rating on every hearing protector sold in the US, in decibels, from the ANSI S3.19 laboratory test. A higher number means more attenuation in that test. OSHA's published method for estimating field protection subtracts 7 dB from the NRR (and some employers halve the remainder).

Ratings and specifications on this page are shown as published by the manufacturer or the named standard and describe performance in that standard's test. They are not a recommendation for any task. The employer's hazard assessment decides what protective equipment a job needs. Verify details against the manufacturer's current documentation before you buy.
