In plain words. A cut level tells you how much force it took a blade to cut through the glove material in the standard's test. A8 means it took 5,000 to 5,999 grams (11.0 to 13.2 lb). A1 is the lowest level (200 grams, 0.4 lb) and A9 the highest (6,000 grams and above, 13.2 lb and above). The number comes from the manufacturer's published test result, not from us.
Technical. ANSI/ISEA 105 (2016 and 2024 editions, same cut scale), cut resistance by ASTM F2992-15 (TDM-100 machine, straight blade, 20 mm stroke); the reported value is the load in grams at which cut-through occurs at 20 mm. Levels: A1 200–499 g, A2 500–999 g, A3 1,000–1,499 g, A4 1,500–2,199 g, A5 2,200–2,999 g, A6 3,000–3,999 g, A7 4,000–4,999 g, A8 5,000–5,999 g, A9 6,000 g and above. Abrasion (ASTM D3389) levels 0–6; puncture (EN 388 probe) levels 0–5; needlestick puncture (ASTM F2878) levels 0–5. The EN 388:2016 code shown on European-marked gloves lists abrasion, coup cut, tear, puncture, then the ISO 13997 cut letter A–F and P for impact.
Ratings on this page are shown as published by the manufacturer or the named standard and describe performance in that standard's test. They are not a recommendation for any task. The employer's hazard assessment decides what protective equipment a job needs. Verify details against the manufacturer's current documentation before you buy.
