In plain words. Coveralls are sold by what they are made of and what they are rated for. Disposable coveralls (polypropylene, SMS, microporous film such as Tyvek) are rated for dry particles and light spray; chemical coveralls for splash; FR coveralls (Nomex, FR cotton, modacrylic blends) for flash fire or arc flash with an arc rating; cleanroom coveralls for low linting. The manufacturer states the fabric, the closure (zipper, snaps), whether it is hooded, and the standards it is tested to.

Technical. European protective-clothing types: Type 5 (airborne solid particulates, EN ISO 13982-1), Type 6 (limited liquid splash, EN 13034), Type 4 (spray-tight, EN 14605), Type 3 (liquid-tight, EN 14605); EN 14126 for infective agents. US flame-resistance marks: NFPA 2112 (flash fire) and ASTM F1506 (electric arc, with the arc rating by ASTM F1959). Cleanroom garments are described by the manufacturer's lint and particle data. Values are as published.

Ratings and specifications on this page are shown as published by the manufacturer or the named standard and describe performance in that standard's test. They are not a recommendation for any task. The employer's hazard assessment decides what protective equipment a job needs. Verify details against the manufacturer's current documentation before you buy.
