Draeger X-act 5000 and X-act 7000: two different instruments, and what each one reads
They are not two sizes of the same thing. The X-act 5000 Basic is an ex-protected automatic tube pump for the same short-term Draeger tubes the accuro reads: menu-controlled, 1 to 199 strokes, 100 mL (± 5 %) per stroke, approx. 1.6 kg, IP 64, NiMH battery, with modes for short-term tubes, measurement in technical gases, and sampling with sampling tubes and systems; it drives extension hoses up to 30 m and shortens the measuring time for tubes with high stroke numbers (handbook pp. 30–33). The X-act 7000 is an optoelectronic analyzer for Draeger MicroTubes, a different consumable: it opens the MicroTube capillary, draws a constant flow, reads the color change with a CMOS camera and calculates concentrations in the low ppb range, ATEX/IECEx zone 0, IP 54, five batteries for more than ten hours (pp. 80–82). A short-term tube does not go in an X-act 7000, and a MicroTube does not go in an X-act 5000.
Draeger X-act 7000 MicroTube analyzerOptoelectronic analyzer for MicroTubes, ppb range, ATEX/IECEx zone 0, IP 54 (handbook pp. 81–82)Why does Draeger have both? The handbook describes the X-act 5000 as the pump for higher stroke numbers and for sampling: all parameters are entered on the pump, it adjusts the flow for the different viscosity of technical gases, and in sampling mode it runs a set flow for a set time and stops by itself, so no external flow meter is needed (pp. 31–32). The X-act 7000 answers a different need: concentrations in the low ppb range, where a colorimetric stain read by eye is not enough, so the camera reads discolorations the eye cannot see and includes the speed of the color change in the calculation; the mass-flow principle makes it independent of ambient pressure fluctuations (p. 81). MicroTube sets give 10 measurements per gas with the calibration data on an RFID tag (pp. 80–81).

- X-act 5000: NiMH battery T4 4523520, plug-in power supply 4523545, vehicle charger 12/24 V 4523511, SO3 filter 8103525, extension hose 30 m 6401175, calibration tubes (8103651 on this site).
- X-act 7000: X-am pump 8327115 with USB charging cable 8327102, coupler 8610810, transport case 8327661, battery set 3703133, pre-tube holder 3715575, H2S pre-tube 3716630, ppb Booster Basic 3702013.
- Both: the SO3 filter inside the X-act 5000 retains sulfur trioxide vapors and aerosols for up to two years (p. 31); the X-act 7000 performs a self-test before every measurement series and a leak test (p. 88).

Questions people ask
What is the difference between the Draeger X-act 5000 and X-act 7000?
The X-act 5000 is an automatic pump for short-term Draeger tubes (1 to 199 strokes); the X-act 7000 is an optoelectronic analyzer for Draeger MicroTubes in the ppb range (handbook pp. 30–33, 80–82).
Can the X-act 7000 read regular Draeger tubes?
No; it measures with Draeger MicroTubes, a different consumable with an RFID tag (p. 80).
Which gases have MicroTubes?
Benzene, formaldehyde, hydrogen sulfide, ammonia, carbon monoxide, chlorine, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, nitrous fumes, phosgene, ethylene oxide, mercury, acetone, alcohols, carbon dioxide, hydrogen cyanide, hydrochloric acid, toluene, xylene, perchloroethylene, petroleum hydrocarbons, butadiene and MTBE on this site; each gas page lists them.
Is the X-act 5000 ex-rated?
The handbook lists the X-act 5000 Basic as ex-protected, IP 64, NiMH battery T4 (p. 33).
How long does the X-act 7000 run on batteries?
Five replaceable batteries give more than ten hours of measurement, with the capacity shown on the display (p. 81).
