About Halotron BrX
Halotron BrX is stabilized 2-BTP (2-bromo-3,3,3-trifluoropropene), a clean extinguishing agent that discharges as a rapidly evaporating liquid, is electrically non-conductive and leaves no residue. Amerex describes it as a chemically acting agent: the bromine interrupts the combustion chain reaction in addition to cooling the fire. Amerex lists it as an EPA-approved clean agent for Class A, B and C hazards with a global warming potential of 0.26, an ozone depletion potential of 0.0028 and a short atmospheric lifetime.
Maintenance
NFPA 10 does not require an annual internal examination for non-rechargeable fire extinguishers (7.3.3.6), and non-rechargeable units are not subject to the 6-year internal examination or hydrostatic test; they are removed from service at a maximum of 12 years from the date of manufacture (7.3.6.3). Monthly and annual inspections still apply. Check the code adopted by your authority having jurisdiction.
Where it fits
Amerex lists the HT Series for healthcare, clean manufacturing, data processing centers and museums: Class A, B and C hazards around electronic equipment, specialized machinery and other sensitive materials. Amerex lists a minimum room volume of 2,988 cubic feet for the 551; for smaller enclosed rooms the same series includes the Model 547 and 549 (3.75 lb, 5B:C, 896 cubic feet) and the A537TS (1.79 lb, 2B:C, 427 cubic feet).
