What the makers' data lists for escape from fire smoke, carbon monoxide and chemical releases

Escape devices are not firefighting respirators. Dräger's product data for the PARAT 5500 fire escape hoods states protection against toxic fire-related gases, vapors and particles for at least 15 minutes with a CO P2 filter (EN 403); the PARAT 7500 combines fire and industrial filters (ABEK CO P3); the PARAT 4700/4900 industrial hoods carry ABEK P3 filters (EN 14387; 4920 NIOSH); the North 7902 and 7904 mouthbits are NIOSH certified for escape from acid gas and ammonia; the North ER2000CBRN is a NIOSH CAP 2 CBRN escape hood (minimum 30 minutes).

Escape Respirators for Fire Smoke and Chemical Releases questions

Can an escape hood be used to fight a fire? No. Dräger's PARAT data describes the hoods as escape devices for leaving the area within the rated time; 29 CFR 1910.134(d)(2)(ii) limits escape-only respirators to escape.

How long does a PARAT fire escape hood protect? At least 15 minutes (Dräger PARAT 5500 and 7500 product data).
