Cylinder construction and connection
- The cylinder is wound thousands of times with high-strength carbon fibers impregnated with epoxy resin. A final over-wrap of fiberglass fibers enhances abrasion resistance. Then, a glow-in-the-dark luminescent band is applied for improved night visibility. (MSA G1 cylinders bulletin)

MSA G1 Industrial SCBA and G1 Facepiece questions
What is the G1 Industrial SCBA? MSA's NIOSH-approved industrial version of the G1 fire service SCBA; MSA notes that fire-hardened does not mean NFPA approved. 10215805 and 10215806 are the low-pressure 30-minute aluminum cylinder configurations with and without the hard case; GIN7412H1A1HAF1 is an assemble-to-order configuration (data sheet).
How long do the cylinders last? MSA's cylinder table lists 30-minute 45 ft³ cylinders at 2216, 4500 and 5500 psi, 45-minute 65 ft³ and 60-minute 87 ft³ cylinders at 4500 and 5500 psi, with heights, diameters and full weights (G1 cylinder data sheet).
Can the G1 facepiece take cartridges? Yes, with the 10199720 twin cartridge APR adapter, approved with the full line of Advantage cartridges and Flexi-Filters; or the 10144231-SP single-canister adapter (G1 APR data sheet).
What is the NIOSH approval? SCBA: CEL TC-13F-0796 to 0799 Model G1; APR: the G1 APR approval insert (Material 10160485 Rev 11); gas mask and CBRN: TC-14G-0274/0279/0280/0282, 0351 and 0335 (NIOSH CEL; MSA inserts).
What is the APF of an SCBA? OSHA Table 1 gives 10,000 for a pressure-demand full facepiece SCBA and names it for IDLH atmospheres in 29 CFR 1910.134(d)(2).
