Cross-sensitivity (handbook, p. 206): 500 ppm hydrochloric acid, 500 ppm sulfur dioxide, 500 ppm ammonia, or 100 ppm arsine do not affect the reading. Methyl mercaptan and ethyl mercaptan discolor the entire indicating layer a weak yellow and, when mixed with hydrogen sulfide, extend the reading by around 30 %.
